Oh dear lord y'all are hilarious, okay I'll modify my original comment. If you're currently battling pests or just recovered from one within a month please be kind and let the customer know. if not then you're a jerk.

lol dude I told you back then I had no where to put it!! yeah the frag I had issues with is now in the back yard feeding bugs in the woods. and it wasn't a hobbyist so no worries. I included them in this list just to be fair and cause I've seen some pictures with nasties attached to it. if I see it then I generally don't buy it. and I knew it was from one frag because it happened after I added it and it was the only frag that had it growing on it. anyways there is no issue anymore just wanted to bring some awareness....
-
and BTW the reason for posting is to bring awareness to this type of issue in the hobby not to bash on a hobbyist or LFS. I don't think I asked for advice anywhere in this thread... simply stating my opinion of a general rule of selling frags to hobbyists.
-
YUP I hear ya bro. I've had the same happen to me too.
-
HA you've lost your mind homey... my phos levels are low, and I only have 2 fire fish in my tank that have been in there since January. and I'm not adding multiple frags all at once from multiple sources. oh and someone doesn't want to sell to me thats fine too, I'm not gonna cry over spilled milk. and when I do a WC it's only 4 gallons at the most (it's a nano tank!) and some algae will thrive in ANY conditions broski... ask anyone who has battled hair algae. so basically a tank 95% Z's & P's with 2 tiny fire fish that gets fed 3 times a week. and as for the pictures bro I told ya to come on over here! posting pictures just wouldn't look as good.
-
oh and thanks for the advice on the bryopsis, I already took care of it a week later... and yes I did dose with Mag; however you don't need your levels to be that high, anywhere between 1450-1550 is just fine. bring it up slowly and the algae will turn yellow then brown. do a water change and suck out the algae and problem solved. most old heads around here know how to take care of pests, but getting them are annoying. hence why I'm posting this thread.

so if QT is the ultimate answer what can you do when you can't/don't have one? bottom line not everyone has the space in their houses/apartments to setup a second tank/stand/lights to sustain corals/fish. lord knows I don't have the room for it. would I like to have one? of course... so basically shame on the hobbyist for not going the extra mile for all frags they purchase. okay gotcha. sounds like more of the same from back in the day. "not my problem" err "should've set up a QT system" HA good to know some things never change. I tell you what, if I have purchased something from you and it turns out you have some kind of pest on it then I never buy anything from you again. back to the zoanthid conversation: let me sell you a frag pack for $380, I'll give you a great deal, 4 different zoas with 2 polyps each. I will warn you that they are sensitive and that you shouldn't FW dip them. lets see how many of these polyps survive the week. and yes sometime polyps close up and melt and it had nothing to do with pests, worms, infections or anything. one minute it is doing great and the very next day it closes up and melts a week later.
-
some paly's and zoas are sensitive to dips in FW. I've had some in the past do okay but I've also had some that have closed up and melt away. I don't understand the confusion here; let me put it in another way.... some SPS corals are way more sensitive to changes than others; do you agree? and you wouldn't just dip a very expensive frag that was known to be sensitive in just any solution. you would basically find a dip that is very easy on the coral and observe the frag closely. now in my case the seller had been fighting byropsis and didn't tell me, scrubbed the frag and sold it. that type of algae can bloom overnight in any ones tank.
-
see thats where I disagree... lets say I have AEFW and I don't say a word to you or someone else about them. you take them home and do a normal dip without being aggressive like you would if you know you had AEFW. you then place that frag in your system and BAM! you have an outbreak. now would it be right for me to wag my finger and say "I told you so"? no it wouldn't, and yes the seller would be getting a angry call.
-
do you have any zoanthids or palys in your tank that are worth $80 per polyp?
-
yeah that's not going to happen to a frag that costs $80 per polyp. to be honest with you I have fragged and transferred plenty of Z's & P's in my life time and no matter how careful you are you WILL damage and kill some zoas... yes I do believe their is a level of customer responsibility to do your due diligence by scrubbing and dipping your new frags. However there is a huge level of responsibility on the Seller to know what they are selling and the condition of the frag before the sell it. and BTW fresh water will kill any high end Z's & P's since they are sensitive to all changes (temp, SG, ect..) look I'm not on here posting without doing my own due diligence for dipping and cleaning all my frags I put in my system. this post is to remind people to focus on the hobby a little more than selling and getting $$ for corals. oh and as for a frag system, some of us don't have the luxury of setting a frag tank up... thanks.
-
I would hope most would know but I have been seen a lot of FS threads and LFS selling frags that have pests on them. Everyone tries to not grow nuisance algae in their tanks but getting something tag along with a frag is poor salesmanship. I'm posting this cause I'm fighting byropsis that tagged along on a frag I purchased. To make a long story short; if your frag tank has nuisance algae please fix the problem before you sell to people.
-
Dude you don't need a chiller. Save the $$ and buy some cheap fans. Since switching to radions I keep the temp stable at 75. If it ever jumps up high I'll simply buy a Cheapo fan and rig it up.
-
Oh this is just my $.02 use any dip with caution.
-
Hydrogen peroxide solution should be around 30/70 of tank water mix. Some use more but I've found that this mix works just fine. Leave the frag in the solution for 2-3 minutes. Use turkey blaster to agitate the solution. Lugols iodine should be 8 drops to 1 cup of tank water for a strong dip. I would leave the frag in the solution for 3 minutes and use the turkey blaster to agitate the solution. Always dip Lugols last. Coral rx is okay just not as effective.
-
they don't look terrible.. but if they close up completely and look aggitated you can dip them in Lugols iodine or hydrogen proxide.
-
Yahoos meaning you? Haha
-
Does anyone know how to add new data points?
-
Don't about lifting anything Steve but I'm more than willing to supervise with you! We can call it the handicap section!
-
Very cool thanks broski.
-
yeah I watched that video like 5 times already... doesn't really explain all the possible options. just straight forward software use.
-
wow trockafella showing a sensitive side? ryan I guess you bring out the bright colors in his eyes! hahaha btw if you're giving away some colorful zoas add my name to the list!! umm I was the guy who encouraged you to sell me your tank! all in all trockafella is right, you've already paid your membership so don't worry and be happy... oh yes I did reference that song... and yes I still wouldn't run the reds when I'm not home... 1 it's the principle of the matter, and 2 I would be worried about if "Vinnie" my bulldog eyes would get hurt from staring at red all day.
-
yeah broski, I might need ya to come over to show me that one...
