  1. What i dont understand glassbox states [sTONY] corals .... How can anybody reading this article come away thinking everything out of japanese waters is off limit Buyer beware any coral/zoo/chalice you want and its price is high because somebody says its an coral from TYREE or a zoo from japan or a sps from aust make them prove it ..... Really all glassbox was pointing out is that point....AND DONT BUY SPS FROM JAPAN If sonny will not show you his paperwork then you know whats going on... HAS anybody tried and sonny would not....???????
  2. JUST PUT at lease an inch of sugar sand in every tank and you will never have nitrates.... [4inches or more if you have alot of fish] so simple yet still most people battle nitrate problems.... You can stir your beds till your arm falls off and they still remove your nitrates this is another myth that runs rampet in this hobby... upside down sand beds work faster at removing nitrates and are my favorite.. Simple just add 1 to 6 inches of sugar sand deeper if you dont have a large tank and stir if you like the white look and you will be happy...
  3. Tanksalot's Store on ebay has a dual line for the hospital type pumps you can find a pump for cheap if you check on ebay alot......If you can find a dead one you can get a cheap motor from the surplus center...... The dueal line is the key to saving you money I LOVE THEM and find it very easy to deal with .
  4. I dont think anybody showed what a burp tube is and where you put it or why you need it.... Dan i have only herd it called a burp tube and the use of pressure valve through me off THERE are some ozone pressure valves but they operate at higher psi then needed Your burp tube is just a rigid airline tube connected to the exit nipple RUN it to the bottom of the reactor to where you want the water level to be It works like a siphon break
  5. To me the faster you cut up a colony the better the small frags survive way better then kepping the small colony together. Mr corals frags have never died in my tank so he must be doing something right.
  6. There are some hospital pumps on ebay for 60/80 shipped all you need is the double drip lines and you have a great 2 part doser ....... I LOVE MINE AND THE DOUBLE line last about a year before i replace them. I WOULD BUY 2 OF THE HOSPITAL pumps before i would get anything else as i prefer them.
  7. CHECK out this reactor from CLEARTIDES.COM ONLY 45.00 PLUS 20.00 TO SHIP FROM THE UK there site has paypal and setup for shipping to US........... Only 35.00 +20.00 WITHOUT pressure guage....Cheap enough i will order one to try There sulfur reactors look sick and cheap also.
  8. my diy ozone reactor that i just built work great and is much better to me then the MRC design. I took a Grey seas reactor added a Kent injector bio balls and sealed it up. RUNS AT 1 PSI all the water and air come out of one PVC nipple and works fantastic plus the best part is no pump needed. you only need to turn up the flow until it pushes out the water at the bottom what a simple design that alot of reactors from the UK use. Will if you build one like this you can tell when you have pressure just buy turning up the flow until you see bubbles coming out of your flow......... You are welcome to stop buy my house if you want to see this in action and give you a better idea how these work.
  9. Bowen's farm supply in Annapolis MD usually has mag flake this time of year..... at 2550 Riva rd .....annapolis MD
  10. I have used awt for a year and test it against 2 calcium test i have and it always comes back about the same as the home test kits i have. THE SAME GOES FOR ALK. my main reason was to test it against my seachem low range kit and it and seachem are pretty close my nitrates stay around .5..... YOU made a mistake in my opinion mailing on a Fri i always mail on a Mon/Tue and get back the results 2 days later.
  11. A 5 GALLON BUCKET[35PDS]OF CALCIUM FROM BRS COST 90.00 SHIPPED TO YOUR DOOR this is why you should get some tetra. YOU CAN buy a 50lb bag for 18.00 fill up a 5gal bucket and give away the rest and still save a bundle over BRS. 1 lite soda ash bag for 20.00 will fill up another 5 gal bucket and you are set.......
  12. I used a whole bag of c-force in my reef for about a year this stuff had a brown layer of settlement that would form that was scary. MY GUESS is that it was clay as it looked like it and my tank did great but it did worry me at first. This china tetra is pure white and mixes so clean that c-force pellets and tetra flakes are not the same as some had suggested.
  13. Thanks for checking I am interested in seeing how the Finland stuff compares to the Chinese. The tetra from china product mixes very clear with nothing settling on the bottom.
  14. THATS THE ONE I CALLED she might be wrong she knew what it was and said they were out.......she might have been mistaking.....
  15. I called the home depot in ashburn and they sold out already and dont know if they are getting any. If anyone sees the 100lb bags from Finland let me know please.
  16. I New i read something good looking out..... I know alot of vendors switched to TETRA from china and alot of reefers have used it for a couple of years with no problems. I am surprised that anything but the Chinese version is around in the states what street is the home depot at that has the Finland stuff. There were some members on reefcentral that got ahold of a chemist from tetra and put his emails up on reefcentral the chemist said the tetra from china was made from the limestone process and was way cleaner then dows. As always its your tank so its your call.
  17. The article said there was a world shortage of HCA which was driving the price to high to manufacture and produce it the limestone way. HOPEFULLY this doesn't happen as tetra is the one last good diy calcium without any problems......time to stock up.
  18. I READ SOMEWHERE THAT TETRA was going away from the limestone process because of a shortage of the acid they use in the limestone process and was changing or building a us plant this year. The article said the new product from the us would be just like dow. AS FOR CFORCE being the same as tetra the bag i got from harveys salt co was such a dirty mixture with so much brown slime floating on the top and on the bottom that i would nit recommend this product to anybody. THE tetra mixes much cleaner then the c-force i got. The article i read was some type of release from tetra i think.
  19. check your local home depo for tetra calcium chloride flakes this is the good stuff as long as its from china..... cost 19.00 for 40/50ilb bag at a baltimore store..... ONE GOOD SNOW and it goes fast.
  20. Found some tetra calcium flakes at home depot in the balt area. This is the good stuff from china which may not be around after this year if tetra opened there us plant. Was 19.00 dollars get some while you can. Any one that remembers Dow and south down products and wishes they stocked up heres your chance to stock up on calcium for your 2 part.
  21. SAVE YOURSELF the problems and keep the sand. ADD that ozone as the only pitfall with deep sand can be low orp so add the ozone and keep the sand.
  22. The Phoenix 14k is the best bulb for the least amount of money you can get so to me its a no brainier get a lumen max elite DE or a lumen bright DE or the caymensun DE reflector. The worst thing you can ever do is get any reflector without a glass shied as salt spray kills them all. YOU WILL LOVE THE SMALL size of the lumen max elites and the par and spread.....The best to me
  23. I HAVE THE LUMEN BRIGHT DE REFLECTORS ITS THE SAME REFLECTOR WHETHER YOU get it SE or DE. Most of the higher end reflectors have both SE/DE in the same size reflector including lumen max elites and lumen arc so stick to the DE .
  24. THERE IS NOTHING THAT OUT LIVES A HQI MAG BALLAST PLUS more light from your bulbs and as your bulb ages it increases the voltage to the blub....... A WINNER IN EVERY WAY.
  25. OREGON torts are pretty easy to keep blue but you are at nitrate levels that can cause Browning or greening. Pretty simple to get 10ppm down in the 1ppm or lower either add a deep sand bed somewhere or start a sulfur reactor. Get seachems low range nitrate kit to check whats going on really simple theres no real mysteries to our tanks anymore. Addind some ozone can help alot also.
