  1. In our joking about the poorly written article and some clearly missing key details (probably not fully understood by the person writing the article), I didn't want to come across as not taking this seriously. It's something we must all be extremely careful.
  2. Now that is a pickup line that I've never heard before: "come see my 200 gallon in my double-wide." ... but beware of the death mist.
  3. Yes, they called it "creeping death mist" -- seems like the reporter hasn't reported the situation accurately.
  4. Was there a mistake in this article about another poisoning by zoanthid's palytoxin? http://boingboing.net/2015/09/25/aquarium-coral-poisons-sleepin.html
  5. Lots of members in Alexandria area. I'm in Potomac Yard (Arlington side). We should all organize a gathering.
  6. Welcome. Hope to see you at the next WAMAS meeting.
  7. These GE digital timers are small and fit in a single plug each. When the power goes out, they retain the proper time: http://m.target.com/p/ge-indoor-7-day-digital-bar-timer-2-pk/-/A-14551052

    My Biocube

    From the album: My tank

    My biocube for sale
  10. I bought my Biocube, and I no longer need my Coralife 24in length 65 watt lighting that was on my old tank. It is only a few months old actually. Pick it up for FREE. I am in Arlington.
  11. Thanks. Let me know. When I went to the last meeting, the guy at the table said he remembered receiving my check, but he still wanted me to pay, because it had not been deposited. He told me that the check would not be deposited. It's not a large amount, of course, but I'm just a school teacher.
  12. I sent my $20 membership dues in months ago, but the check was not deposited - even after I contacted the group. I attended my first meeting a few weeks ago and I was asked to pay cash for a membership, and was assured that the check would not be deposited. I just got my bank statement yesterday, and I see that my check was indeed deposited on July 31. How can I get my money back, as I have now paid twice? Kenneth McCreary
  13. In case anyone is interested. I found a whole 40+ page discussion on a UK site about their experiences with the Red Sea Max: http://www.reefsuk.org/forum/viewtopic.php...ecc3d521ef07d72
  14. Just curious. What are the dimensions (and # of gallons)? Kenneth
  15. Does anyone have the Red Sea Max 34 gal. all-in-one tank? I am thinking about getting one, and I want to know how loud it is? Perhaps I could just stop by and take a listen to it? Kenneth
  16. Does anyone know how to build a false wall at the back of the thank to house a wet/dry filter with pump, skimmer, and fuge?
  17. I am thinking about switching to the 29 gal Biocube. In my signature, you can see my current setup. As you can see, I am not going up really in size, but I like the idea of the all-in-one concept, but the main reason is for looks. The bicube just looks so much better in my living room, compared to my current setup. Additionally, the Biocube fits perfectly on my current modern stand that goes with my home decor. I am concerned that the lack of a skimmer could be a problem. Super Petz has the cube on sale for $229. Do you think it is worth the change?
  18. You are right there. Since I first posted this thread, I've given away the sea cucumber and arrow crab. That darn coral banded shrimp is hard to catch without taking all the rock out. HHhhmm, should I be very concerned about the brittle star?
  19. Thank you all for the warm welcome. I look forward to seeing members at the summer meeting on June 23. Kenneth
  20. As I understand it, there is a control center with individual switches that allow you to control each component, and there are approximately two free sockets available.
  21. I've seen the Red Sea Max All-in-One 35 gal in two LFS and it looks very attractive and I like the idea of having everything integrated into one attractive unit with a SINGLE plug (Wow!). Anyone has one of these? Would you recommend it? Kenneth
  22. Membership department I sent in my check to become a WAMAS member. That was over a month ago, and I noticed that the check has not cleared. Has the check been received? Am I a member? Kenneth McCreary
  23. Thanks for the info. The scooter blenny didn't starve, as I only had him for about 5 days from the shop. He could have died on his own, but I have read other accounts of people stating that their coral banded shrimp attacked other slow-moving fish.
  24. I did not see my scooter blenny for a couple of days, and this morning I saw my coral banded shrimp snacking on the corps of my scooter blenny. I knew coral banded shrimp were agressive, but I did not think he would dispatch my (rather slow moving) scooter blenny. I've decided that the coral banded shrimp has to go. I hope I can catch him without taking out all my rocks. I'll try to lure him out of the rockwork with some meat on tongs, and then grab him with the tongs.
  25. What a brilliant idea! I am going to try this myself. Brenden, we have a silimar size tank, so I think this is really creative for our needs. I really like this group. It's full of such creativity and innovation.
