I have had an established 150 gallon tank for about 3 months now. Whenever I put SPS frags, even montiporas they start strong and then die within a few weeks. My water chem is good although trates are starting to creep, although still low. My guess is that it is from the water I am adding to replace evaporation. Phosphate is low and i keep ph/temp stabile during once a week water changes. Any suggestions would be welcome. I klnow it could be anything.

Hey - I am new too -- Learning one lesson the hard way. Make sure you quarantine all your new fish. My tank has ich and its a royal pain. the only way I can get rid of it is to do 50% water changes daily. I have done a lot of research and this seems to be the best way without killing everything in my tank. Good Luck - Even with the ich - I am having a blast.

Thanks to everyone. I did return it when it didnt fit. My stand is custom built so i just need to find one that will fit. I think I definetly need one, cause there is visible gunk in the sump.

I am new to the hobby and when I bought my 150 gal tank the skimmer sold to me didnt fit into the sump. The tank has been running about two months and the water tests seem to be all good. Has anyone ever run a reef tank without a skimmer. I have heard some say it can be done, but takes a lot of experience. I have both hard and soft corals in there.

This isnt much help to your problem, but I have a similar problem.One of my skunk cleaners is in my sump. No way I can get a net into the spot where he is at. I was considering leaving him. Anyone have a view on whether he will make it down there?
