kysmith July 20, 2004 July 20, 2004 OK I'm a poor college student who is just getting into the hobby. I just got a good deal on a 29 gallon tank that came with 45 lbs of live rock, some live stock, live sand, powerheads, heater..... Anyways I've had it up and running for two weeks now (used the previous owner's year old water). I've got my nitrates down to near zero, Ammonia is zero..... and everything else is completely normal. My condi anemone and my clown fish, condi anemone, and shirmp are all eating and have been since the first day I set it all up. So now since everything seems stable (been checking water regularly) I was thinking it was the right time to add a little zoo colony, and possibly some mushrooms. Can someone help me out on some frags I can pay some money for them but I am on a limited budget. Thanks in advance, Kyle
Guest clownfish4 July 20, 2004 July 20, 2004 What kind of lighting do you have? I have GSP, spotted shrooms, and pulsing xenias that you can have for free.
Sugar Magnolia July 20, 2004 July 20, 2004 Can I make a suggestion? I'd wait a couple more weeks to be sure everything is completely stable. I know you said the readings were down to near zero, but it's not a good idea to rush anything when dealing with salt tanks. Things can crash in an instant for no apparent reason, even with well established tanks. If it were me, I'd wait. Terribly difficult to do, believe me, but in the long run it is well worth it. Since you are on such a limited budget, wouldn't it be prudent (George Bushism there...the elder Bush) to wait rather than rush into things and risk losing expensive livestock? Just my 2 cents.
michaelg July 21, 2004 July 21, 2004 Yes, I'd suggest waiting a couple more week, and doing a water change and making sure all is cool after that. What are you using for source water? It can take a couple weeks for an algae bloom to rear it's ugly head, and you should wait for this before adding corals. Some more specs on the tank would be awesome, as well as where you are located WELCOME! Michael
