Surge tank

When I was in Oakland, CA I went to a LFS called Tropical Paradise.  Their entire store ran on surge devices.  They had large SPS tanks that had four 40-50 gallon surge tanks hooked up to them.  The system was incredible!  It is a very simple device with no moving parts.  Here is a website that describes the system.  Surge Device

I am putting one on my system as soon as I get home.

here is the flapper surge device, but the carlson version is better, no moving parts.surge2.jpg

just make sure your sump can handle the surge, and you overflows. also if you have a skimmer, the water level dropping and riseing will play havoc on it.

Nice tgallo,  what is that tank?  Is that where you grow your corals?

Carlson isn't better, more noise, more bubbles... just diffrent.

BTW this is the same Bruce Carlson (who refuses to take credit for the device, he didn't think it up, just made it poppular) that will be at the Symposium.

that was a 100 gallon vat i used to hold my corals when i transferd from my old tank to my new one, so i decided to give a surge a try, i worked fine, and produced one heck of a surge. i have sinced broke it down and no longer use it, but a surge device , one on each end of the tank would be ideal for corals.

well the reason i think the carlson is better, is because there are no moving parts to jam, compared to the flapper device wich sometimes will not open, thats why you should always have a bypass on the bucket, just in case.
Yes- This is the carlson who will be at the meeting next Saturday- and the inventor of the one similar to Tony's (Eric Borneman) will be here in the fall.   :D
