ImGoingCoastal October 27, 2018 Share October 27, 2018 So I'm not in a MAJOR rush. But to me, the sooner the better. That being said. I bought 50+ lbs of (formerly) live rock. The rock was removed from a tank and stored in container and outside for nearly a year. It did not have a lot of growth on it, but there is some. I truthfully know very little about the rock except for what I've mentioned. So, that being said.... Would you use muriatic, bleach, or just plain old water to clean/cure it? Any advice is appreciated! Picture of said rock attached for reference. -A-a-ron
BtmDweller October 27, 2018 Share October 27, 2018 I’d rinse anything off it and throw it in a large tote or rubber maid container with a power head. Use dirty tank water or add some cured rock or sand. Or pay for bacteria, plenty of us have it free in our tanks though. For your case no need for bleach, vinegar bath, or boiling them. My preference is dry rock, less pests. My current system was cycled by just using the water from water changes of another tank.
ImGoingCoastal October 27, 2018 Author Share October 27, 2018 Thanks! That was my original plan. But wasn't sure if I should clean them prior, given their unknown past. -A-a-ron
ReefdUp October 30, 2018 Share October 30, 2018 I've always muriatic acid washed, RO rinsed, sun-bleached, then bleached, then RO rinsed, then sun-bleached. Total overkill. But, that's me. I try to extract heavy metals, phosphates, remaining organics, whatever as much as I can. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
