Hello all,

New member here, my son Ethan and I are building our first SW setup. We are making this a science project for him and a financial minimalist project for me! We attended the meeting last week and enjoyed meeting some of you. Thanks Tom (@origami) for the hospitality and the advice!

A very special thanks to Marco (@monkiboy) at Exotic Reef Creations for giving us a smokin deal on an Evergrow LED light. Our CL deal fell through and we didn't have the budget for a more expensive light. If it wasn't for Marco, out project would of went on hold till next month, thank you very much! Light is great and we are even seeing a tan cabbage leaf coral that came along for the ride with our rock come back to life nicely!

Speaking of which, also big thanks to Tom (@kyle&amy) for another smoking deal on about 50 lbs of live rock. (And our first coral that came along for the ride!) despite my poor rockscaping, looks like it is going to be great!

In addition to the rock, we are running a HOB filter for mechanical now with a surprise diy filter to come soon for the long term. Here's some pics and one question about another couple of passengers on our rock.

Funny, we got to the top of our fiberglass rods and I realized I didn't have a set of cutters big enough to trim the excess. Will have to make a run to Home Depot!

So, funny thing. I thought we had ourselves more free surprises on our rock, but as I searched for what these were, I was saddened that I might have to eradicate it! Could someone please confirm that we have a couple of aiptasias and we need to douse them with hot water? I was so hoping it is not!

Yup. Thats what it looks like. If you have questions about removing them, there are tons a resources on here.
