madmax7774 June 5, 2006 June 5, 2006 I have a yellow tang, and a sohol tang, and they have started rubbing against things occasionally. It doesn't seem to be a frequent thing, maybe once every 30-45 minutes. Spoke with a LFS clerk, who was all gloom and doom about it (sell the tank, move away, armegeddon is coming...) I am wondering at what point do I start to try chemical warefare against some unseen pest. I have a UV sterilizer on the tank, and it runs 24x7 and has been since day 1. I figure that it is helping to keep unwanted microbes under control. I recently bought selcon, and starting adding it to food to boost the fish's health, hopefully that will help them recover. They have no noticeable spots or scars that I can tell. Anyone have any idea's on what I do next? By the way, all of the other fish seem perefctly normal, and have not rubbed anything at all , as near as I can tell. John :(
steveoutlaw June 5, 2006 June 5, 2006 John, I had my yellow and hippo tangs do that once. I started soaking their seaweed in garlic and put a couple of cleaner shrimp in the tank. Next thing I knew they were pulling in for a cleaning from the shrimp on a regular basis. Haven't seen them do it since. Steve
Ne0eN June 5, 2006 June 5, 2006 Yup, Garlic and ginger will help their immunity against Ick. Make sure all your parameters are stable so there is no additional stress on your fish. How many gallons? What other fish do you have? -Rob
Larry Grenier June 5, 2006 June 5, 2006 I agree with Steve. First thing I'd do unless I had a real infestation is a combination of garlic extract and cleaner shrimp before any chemicals.
madmax7774 June 7, 2006 Author June 7, 2006 the tank is a 75 gallon with a few other clowns and a gramma. Will try the garlic idea... thanks
rocko918 June 7, 2006 June 7, 2006 Your tank is too small, i think they are not getting enough room to swim around. I had 3 tangs in my 75 and they started to flash after 6 months, then i upgraded to a 180 and they were happy as clams. I think those 2 fish are not happy with no room to swim. Minimum Tank Size: 180 gallons http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_di...?pcatid=383&N=0
madmax7774 June 7, 2006 Author June 7, 2006 oh lovely. The wife is gonna have a cow. I just finished getting the whole 75 setup and building a nice in wall shelf/stand unit for it. :(

madmax7774 June 7, 2006 Author June 7, 2006 yeah, I think I may have to at this point. I can't get into a larger tank for at least 24 months
