dmatt56 November 24, 2016 Share November 24, 2016 (edited) Hello everyone, I currently have 4 first generation Koralia Evolution 1400 power heads in my 180. I'm debating whether to upgrade them to 4 G3 Koralia or 2 Gyre 230. I've found great Black Friday deals on both. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks Matt Edited November 24, 2016 by dmatt56
FirstContact November 24, 2016 Share November 24, 2016 (edited) I've seen the Gyres in person at my LFS. Gyres hands down. But I'd go with 2 250s. Edited November 24, 2016 by FirstContact
dmatt56 November 24, 2016 Author Share November 24, 2016 My tank is mostly lps and softies. The 150 was way too strong when I tried one last year. I thought perhaps 2 230s would be better.
Squishie89 November 24, 2016 Share November 24, 2016 I feel gyres are hit or miss. For me it has been a miss. Cleaning them is a huge pain. I really liked them at first but once my tank started to grow algae I have just really disliked them. Just my .
mr.x-ray November 25, 2016 Share November 25, 2016 My gyres died. Dead dead after a year each. They are awesome when perfect and clean and new. They are a major pain in the (censor) when it's time to clean or free a jam. Short term for the money kind of recommended, long term not. MP's for me. sethsolomon November 25, 2016 Share November 25, 2016 Get 2 jebao rw-15's They will cost you less than a single gyre. Mine have been running strong for 3 years now.
dmatt56 November 25, 2016 Author Share November 25, 2016 (edited) That's what scares me... Gyre have such horrible reputations! Thanks for the feedback. anyone out there have g3 hydor evolutions? G1 have issues but hydor sends replacement parts for free upon request. Edited November 25, 2016 by dmatt56
