DRotunda May 12, 2016 May 12, 2016 I've had a love/hate relationship with this fish. He's cool and I've learned to live with his constant rearrangement. He's actively hunting frozen foods that I feed the tank and is sifting like a mad man as well. But, he has an attitude problem! Tonight when feeding a couple nassarius snails were surfing around near him and he just went and nipped all of their eye stalks! I believe he's killed one, and ironically now I think he's trying to bury it. After the snail incident he's been swimming over to my clownfish and opening his mouth widely at them, as if he's sizing them up - "which one of you will fit in my mouth?" Should I be concerned?
ParrotFish May 12, 2016 May 12, 2016 Okay him "burying" the snail made me laugh. IIRC usually when fish open their mouths like that it is a warning to the other fish. Usually this will happen if the offending fish has entered their territory or has gotten too close. My Randall's goby has postured, especially at my blenny before, because he has gotten too close.
DRotunda May 12, 2016 Author May 12, 2016 It's the goby's torture chamber.....the snail may pull through it moved a bit so I'll leave it for now. The clownfish were in the tank first and the goby was coming into their territory and opening his mouth all threateningly. The clowns are fairly small compared to the goby. I waited til the goby closed the door to his cave for the night, I think they're safe til morning lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

DRotunda May 12, 2016 Author May 12, 2016 How big is this tank? It's a 90 gallon. Only fish in there are the goby and 2 clownfish.
