  1. Thanks! Put him in and he was trucking along nicely, hopefully the evil DWG leaves him be!
  2. It's a 90 gallon. Only fish in there are the goby and 2 clownfish.
  3. Sorry....Diamond Watchman Goby (Valenciennea puellaris)
  4. It's the goby's torture chamber.....the snail may pull through it moved a bit so I'll leave it for now. The clownfish were in the tank first and the goby was coming into their territory and opening his mouth all threateningly. The clowns are fairly small compared to the goby. I waited til the goby closed the door to his cave for the night, I think they're safe til morning lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I've had a love/hate relationship with this fish. He's cool and I've learned to live with his constant rearrangement. He's actively hunting frozen foods that I feed the tank and is sifting like a mad man as well. But, he has an attitude problem! Tonight when feeding a couple nassarius snails were surfing around near him and he just went and nipped all of their eye stalks! I believe he's killed one, and ironically now I think he's trying to bury it. After the snail incident he's been swimming over to my clownfish and opening his mouth widely at them, as if he's sizing them up - "which one of you will fit in my mouth?" Should I be concerned?
  6. Thank you for your response! Another one also has developed the partial white shell too. Would make sense if it's coralline, another has developed some diatom looking algae. The 5 that we got (90 gallon tank/30 gallon sump) all look pretty vastly different.....1 with the typical trochus cone shape, 3 have a black and white striped appearance and one is all black with a black body. So, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a turbo instead. I've been doing a head count daily to make sure no one is upside down and dead. And there are just the 2 frags in there right now so nothing to bulldoze yet. There's always the fuge if I need to pluck any bulldozers from the DT!
  7. Here's a shot of the snail. As you can see it's covered more than half of the shell. Bonus picture of the Xenia bunched up. I have noticed this bunched up about 3 times since I've been home from work. Otherwise extended and pulsing. And here's the ricordea. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I'm not sure about restaurants but I will say The Marine Scene in Herndon has some great looking DTs. Reef eScape in Fairfax has several DTs setup too. Enjoy your visit!!
  9. Hi all! I'm recently returning to the hobby after a long break and so I have lots of questions. Here's the first of many! After tank cycled - started with live rock and live sand sourced locally with very little die off. Added Dr. Tims ammonia for fish less cycle to 1ppm and waited for cycle. After about 2 days the ammonia and nitrite were reading zero (API test kit) and nitrates settled between 10-20ppm. Did a 30% water change the following day and waited for everything to be steady again. Tested before adding livestock - 0 ammonia and nitrite, nitrate reading between 0 and 5ppm. On Saturday we added 2 black and white clownfish, 2 cheap frags of pulsing Xenia and an orange recordia Florida and 5 trochus snails. We had noticed a small diatom bloom at the end of the cycling and LFS suggested the snails. (A trusted and well reviewed LFS). All has been doing swimmingly (
  10. Is there a certain watt per gallon or some sort of standard I need to look for? It seems there are so many options and any price point imagineable so it's hard to tell what is necessary! Thanks for your input!
  11. Yes the AA reef crest! Awesome I will look into the lighting you suggested, thank you!
  12. Hi all, I am new to this forums and looking to start a new tank. I've been out of the hobby for many years but would like to start a small reef tank again. I am planning on getting the AIO Reef Crest 35 gallon. I'm trying to figure out lighting and Power Compact and MH were the gold standard when I was in the hobby previously. So I'm a bit overwhelmed by LED. I'm looking to have mostly soft corals but I would like a T. Derasa clam (or possibly a different species depending on needs). I would like to not spend a fortune but willing to spend enough to make sure I have a healthy tank. I am drooling over the Al Hydra 52HD but not the price tag! My LFS recommended the Maxspect Razor Nano 70W led which has the price tag I like. I just want to make sure it's enough light for most corals and maybe some higher needs corals down the road. Also, due to the tank placement I need a light that can clip onto the tank rather than suspend from ceiling. Thanks in advance!
