SlyReefer February 27, 2016 February 27, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, Sly Reefer here. Just started a new 29g biocube and added some live rock after a week. I am new to the hobby and need some help! Have some hitchhikers id like you guys to help me identify. Thank you Pistol Shrimp? Unknown?? #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 Barby thingies Edited February 27, 2016 by SlyReefer
Squishie89 February 27, 2016 February 27, 2016 Before I get to the others which seem less of a problem, your first guy is actually a mantis shrimp. I would strongly recommend trying to trap it and see if someone wants it. Mantis shrimps will catch and eat pretty much anything mobile including fish, snails, hermits, shrimp.
Squishie89 February 27, 2016 February 27, 2016 As for the others. I see: aiptasia and/or majano anemones (not good, they are a pest, many ways of killing them), last thing is a micro brittle star (really good to have, helps keep the tank clean and reproduces in captivity so you should have more before you know it), I see some small feather dusters (good sessile inverts that filter feed). Photo labeled #3 I am not sure what you are trying to show us, maybe draw a circle around it in paint so we know what it is you need ID'ed.
mogurnda February 27, 2016 February 27, 2016 #4: Cup coral, either Phyllangia or Corangia. Not a pest.
Hilary February 28, 2016 February 28, 2016 Wish you lived closer - I'd take the mantis off your hands in a heartbeat! Great little guys - they just don't play well with others.
