Zoanthid Encrusting

How long does it take a Zoanthid to encrust onto the rock? I purchased a bunch of zoanthids online and none of them came on a piece of rock, sort of a cluster of polyps.

Hello! First off, welcome to the club.

Second, it depends on a variety of factors, and what types of zoanthid. For the most part, once they get settled into a good environment, they start growing pretty quick (probably not as quickly as you would expect them to.) The good news is, is the larger the cluster, the quicker you'll probably get growth, vs. from one polyp. The fastest growing zoanthid I have ever had has been Sunny D's.

 

Unless it was a colony, I have never bought a zoanthid on a piece of rock, only frag plugs, but that's just my personal experience.
