I know this may seem weird - but does anyone here collect xenia.

Not talking about just the elongata and pink pom=poms which can grow like weeds (but a good nutrient export device)

I mean weird different ones like on GARF.

Thinking about starting a xenia garden for my clowns.

what other types of xenia is there? pom pom and silver elongated were the only ones I knew of. I might have seen some blue ones. But anyways, I have a big island of silver elongated probably with 500 stalks and my clowns are happy with my foot wide toadstool.

I've never seen the silver elongated - only the pink pom poms and the brownish elongata. I hear there is a pink creeper xenia, blue ones, fiji (big fat trunk), giant anthelia (wood's polyps), and probably a lot more.

I'll try pulling up a GARF page with some pics but their navigation is a bit of a mess. Lots of hidden pages.

Heres a couple of links:

http://www.garf.org/fish3/xeniaclown.html

http://www.garf.org/news16p1.html

http://www.garf.org/news6p3.html

Interesting to see that a lot of their data suggests the reef to not exceed 80 or even below 76 degrees. I guess that might be a reason we don't see the other varieties out there in the field.

I know my last tank - temps went well over 86 on a bad day - and the xenia - both elongata and pink pom poms were fine and pulsing away.

Hi.

I might be mistaken but what that site calls Pink Creeping Xenia is more of a Pink Anthelia, fast grower and sometimes may become a nuisance in some SPS tanks. I have so much of it I am killing it with Joe Juice, but I also have the silver and pink pomp pom Xenias if you are interested.

I'm just setting up my fuge and wouldn't mind having some Xenia in it......

Question - will it spread like aptaisia.....I mean, will it send out spores and start growing in my show tank?
