Opinions on date of wamas zoo social

I know we keep jumping around on date. Didn't think about CMAS meeting schedule until today. Wanted feedback from members on their plans before we get too locked into April 8 date for social.

CMAS for me.

 

It's a great day w/2 great sepakers: Mike Paletta and Joe Berger (AKA JBNY on RC). The price is high if you are not a member of CMAS ($40) but it is fully catered w/awesome pit BBQ cooked onsite. They also had 4 vendors there last year selling frags.

 

Pros:

 

Good day for any reefer, lots of other reef geeks to talk with

Great speakers

Great food

 

cons:

 

$30 for CMAS members, $40 for nonmembers (plus the tolls on the way)

It is a good 50 minute drive to the church from Bethesda

i know theres some people with nice zoos in the club. i say lets keep it close to people who are around here and to stay with the some ol' people. id like to meet many of you guys and ill try to attend this one. hopfully i can bring a few frags of my only zoos. id love to pick up many more zoos too so what better way to than a zoo social! sound great and cant wait!!!

Tho I guess a Zoanthus social would be an .. interesting concept!

The poll so far looks like we'll be keeping the date. Unfortunately for me, I made plans to meet some friends out of town that weekend just hours before the announcement came out.

 

For anyone on the fence, the last social at the zoo was a blast. The whole family had a really good time. I highly recommend going!

After the Winter Meeting, something I noticed that at least for me, Was just tooooooo Hectic! Alot going on, but not enough time to talk and meet the faces behind the web names. Would be interested in doing more social times for the meetings. Instead of 2-5, go to a 1-5 format with 1-2hr for the Guest Speaker and 1 hr for the raffles in the end and them a round table discussion format in the auditorium where everyone, stands up, states their names, tanks and brief comment. This way, we actually get to know folks a bit more than a quick hello and a peak at their name tags!

Howard, I am not sure that would be possible at the Quarterly meetings. There were A LOT of people there. We'd still be there going over names and tank descriptions. Back in the "OLD DAYS" maybe, but we are a growing group! Now maybe at the Socials where there are a fewer number of people...

 

Besides, that woudl ruin all the fun of trying to read people's name tags, and determining if they put their real name or their screen name.... LOL

how about another social at local stores? or perhaps another food party? these are good socials were people get to know each other and talk about their tanks.
