GWEBER'S 80 GALLON RIMLESS FRAG TANK BUILD

Recommended Posts

(edited)

Well, now that I have my 150 up and runniing I have turned my attention to my frag tank.  Have been using a 30 gallon rimless deepblue and it has been very nice, just kinda small.  Upgrading to a 80 gallon Deep Blue Rimless RR Frag tank.   It is 48 inches ong   24 inches front to back and 16 inches high.   Because it is ain my rec room and i was too lazy to build a stand i purchased a Plywood stand for it as I do not like the pressboard stands the deep blue products sell.  I am driving it from my 125 gallon sump on my big tank.  I know have almost 330 gallons of water in my system.

It is using a mag 9.5 as a return, which I actually had to turn back a little as the water level was too high because the overflow is set up for around 700 GPH.   I also am using a 1/2 inch sea swirl, but increased the input line to 5/8 inch for more flow.   I may cut back to a mag 7 or some dc controlled pump for the feed pump.

I made a PVC light bracket attached to the wall so I can easily swing the light up and out of the way to work in the tank.  The only issue I had with the tank is one of the bulkhead fittings leaked.  Of course I did not check till after I had the tank 1/3 filled and poured water into the overflow (sigh).  I of course had to empty the tank and proceeded to break the nut on the fitting making it tighter, luckily I had a spare fitting.  It is togather now and ready for me to make the racks and power up the lights.

Using two 165 watt dimmable LED lights, similar to evergrows and same light spectrum.

It's an awesome looking tank!

Gary, have to try again to get a cookout done, because now you have 2 great tanks to show off instead of just 1.
