sen5241b April 11, 2014 April 11, 2014 (edited) My trumpet is getting a little whitish on its brown lips. I've never seen it do this in the years I've had it. It sucks cause I've been waiting for 8 months until recently one giant polyp finally split into 5. I need to save this sucker. He was pretty high under 150w MH for the last 2 or 3 months and then suddenly a day ago I noticed the whitish-ness. On its lips. Too much light? Chemistry? Could splitting cause this? One other thing. he is 9 inches down stream of a 1 inch war coral Edited April 11, 2014 by sen5241b
gmerek2 April 11, 2014 April 11, 2014 Never seen that. Mine is whitish toward the base. But that part doesn't get much light. Maybe try a dip and watch closely for any critters to peel off? My trumpets shriveled during the bad water quality period I had after moving the tank.
sen5241b April 11, 2014 Author April 11, 2014 Found another post on "thereeftank", search "trumpet coral bleaching." Apparently, they get the whitish lips during/after splitting. This trumpet has been under high light for years and never saw it do that. I am ruling out the war coral and "too much light."
