ATO and Apex

I'm thinking about getting the ATO unit, but I was curious which connection to the Apex is preferred. Should I hook it up to a breakout box or directly to the Apex base unit? Any thoughts?

Is there anything else that I'm missing?

If you go with the standard Neptune connection which is a minidin cable you can always cut the header off the cable down the road and use the wires to hook to the break out box.  Not so easy to go the other way.
