gastone January 22, 2006 January 22, 2006 I've got a 30 long which is currently lit by 190W VHO URI super actinic and 190W VHO 10k. As I'm about to replace bulbs shortly I thought, why not switch the 10k to T5? So, based upon some research at RC, I can get these reflectors which are comparable to the IC reflectors, but signicantly cheaper http://www.aqualuxlighting.com/39ultra.html My question is, what color bulbs would you recommend. I'll continue to use the VHO actinics. I'm running an IC660 ballast and for the time being this is a zoanthid tank, with a few echinos and some other various LPS mixed in. Garrett.
dhoch January 22, 2006 January 22, 2006 The closest to what you've got is probably this bulb: http://www.aqualuxlighting.com/37t1054atiaq.html If you want something bluer (probably not with the actinic) go with: http://www.aqualuxlighting.com/37t2054atibl.html Finally for maximum par/growth: http://www.aqualuxlighting.com/34t6539gest.html My preference would be the 11k (the first one) and will probably look really nice in your setup. dhoch January 22, 2006 January 22, 2006 Don't forget you'll need a pair of endcaps, and you'll also have to rewire to add those encaps in. Also the 3" reflector will be wider than your current VHO bulb so take that into account. Dave
gastone January 22, 2006 Author January 22, 2006 Thanks Dave. I've got plenty of room for the reflectors. I'll just have to figure out a way to mount them. I don't have to go with bulbs from aqualux, I could get them elsewhere if there are other bulbs that are better. G.
dhoch January 22, 2006 January 22, 2006 Those ATI bulbs they have, those are the best (or the GE if you want the 6500K range). The reflectors actually clip right onto the bulbs. The only mounting you have to do is the endcaps. (which are just like VHO water proof endcaps, assuming you have those and are ordering T5 water proof endcaps, except smaller). Dave
