When it happened to me, it was due to dust from a rusty spring coming off and causing the solenoid pin to start binding/corroding.  You could try cleaning it and maybe sanding/buffing it smooth again but it will most likely stick again very soon.  Probably not worth the effort/risk to save a few bucks for a new solenoid.  On the flip side, the new solenoid has worked for years without any problems.
