Lanthanum Chloride

I want to make clear the point that a 10 micron bag does allow

some LC to make it way to the main tank.

I would highly recommend at least a 5micron bag be added with the 10

but i like my 100/10/1 as i have zero effect on my tank......no residue/skimmer normal

and my baby yellow tang acts fine.

The best setup would be a reactor or mixing bucket then the socks down to 1micron.

If you are trying to go lower then .05 you need to keep a eye on alk you may need to

add some as it reacts with it at lower levels sometime.

I believe every large system should use LC at least to get the levels down around .06

then run GFO.

The problem comes into play in my experience with using micron bags that are not

down to 1micron.

A minimum of 2 bags is the best approach slip a 10micron bag into a 1micron bag

this will catch any residue.

Run a flow from a MJ900 type pump into a cup inside the bags drip the LC into the cup;

A cup inside the micron bag helps the reaction before it hits the socks.

PHOSFREE works great i use 20ml to a liter.

You can put a 100 micron bag inside the 10/1 to make it last longer and you can add

simple floss into the 100micron bag which really works well.

For some reason people dont realize that putting2/ 3 micron bags back to back

is the way to go......simple solution .

LC works great with no real downfall until you get to lower levels like .05 then you must

dose very slow and make sure you have a multiple bag setup to catch any.

It can remove some alk once you get to lower levels especially if dosed quick.

I use bags from the BIODIESEL site you can order different micron sizes and get

the multy special price as long as the are the same bags.

I order 100/10/1micron bags .........This makes a great 3 bags setup.

Good to see some first hand experience. How long have you run LC? I use you only use it intermittently when you get above 0.05?

Received my Lanthanum Chloride today.

4oz. bottle of agent green. Ordered from Big Als on line. Still waiting on 10 micron filter socks.

My phosphates are at .56. Hoping to use LC temporarily then switching to GFO.

Definitely keep us posted! You are way more on top of this than me!

Basser--is a skimmer a must when dosing this stuff, or would I be OK just doing your 100/10/1 micron sock setup? I have a skimmer but need to switch out sumps and re-plumb everything before it will be hooked up and running....

Not if you use the 100/10/1 that i use as i have a etss1000 beckett and a aqua-c 1000

on my 240 gallon system and the skimmer dont react at all to my dosing.

I used LC 4 years ago and used 20 micron bags and had some issues with it my new setup

had pretty high levels of PO and i tried some PO4 which is nice stuff but way to much

money so i looked for a better way to dose LC.

Ran it on a small frag system for a year with good results so have added it to my new system

for about 7 months.

I am setting up a reactor setup were i can test and control my LC even better for very low PO

levels i hope.......will post my findings and some pics in a little bit.

Yeah, I am planing on using 100/10/10 filter socks and then running it into my skimmer section and wet skimming.
