ridetheducati April 2, 2013 Share April 2, 2013 It is loud because its drawing air. What happens when the nozzle is submerged?
Cliff Puckstable April 2, 2013 Author Share April 2, 2013 It brings the water level down.
Integral9 April 2, 2013 Share April 2, 2013 A cap on the end of the pipe behind the tank with a 1/8" to 1/4" hole will help quiet it down. It may not quiet it down completely, but it should help a lot.

smallreef April 2, 2013 Share April 2, 2013 Cap with a hole drilled in it.... is it the gurggeling or is it the swoosh of the water going down the pipe?

Cliff Puckstable April 2, 2013 Author Share April 2, 2013 I tried the cap with a hole method. There was very little difference in noise. What I ended up doing was taking the strainer off and placing it sideways on top of the drains. 90% better. I just put silicone on it to hold it in place. Hopefully this works, otherwise It's going into a different room, and that would be a dang shame.
epleeds April 3, 2013 Share April 3, 2013 What does the back of the tank look? The drain piping? Can u put a gate valve on it? U can run it at a full siphon.
smallreef April 3, 2013 Share April 3, 2013 I had Adam build me an overflow box so my strainer is 95% submerged...that and my standpipe is only to the top of my tank with the cap/ hole in it.....
Cliff Puckstable April 3, 2013 Author Share April 3, 2013 I will post a picture when I get home from work. The way I have it now is sooooo much better. How do I make it full syphon? Can I 90 it out towards the front or do I have to put a u facing down?
epleeds April 3, 2013 Share April 3, 2013 Full siphon his the Herbie method. It's a gate valve on the drain closed just enough to be fully submerged. Only issue is if u don't have an emergency drain. That could be an issue
