treesprite February 4, 2013 February 4, 2013 Got home from work around 11pm, looked at tank all was fine. 3 hours later my primary flow pump, Gen-X 6000 was dead (it's rated 1587 gph & goes through a WAV... I don;t normally use power heads). Lucky for me, I don't consider it my return pump. I have a little 258gph pump in my refugium which, although creating almost no flow in the tank, at least kept water circulating from the tank through the sump & refugium, to get oxygenated water (courtesy of protein skimmer) into the tank. I think it helps in these situations that I have a c-c overflow, because the entire surface stays in motion even with negligible flow. So I put a few power heads in the tank which are all just single directional, so the corals are hating it. I have one blasting into the front wall to get the flow dispersed. There's movement all around the tank, but the wrong kind of flow so the corals are not happy at all with getting blasted from one direction non-stop. I posted a WTB request, so please respond if you have a something either reliable for long-term use, or cheap for temporary use, or that I could borrow... please respond.
OldReefer February 5, 2013 February 5, 2013 I keep a spare Blueline 55HD on hand for just such an occasion. Let me know if you need it.
Piper February 5, 2013 February 5, 2013 I replied to your other thread from my cell phone earlier. I have a MAG 12 brand new. I'm in Leesburg. PM me if you want it.
treesprite February 5, 2013 Author February 5, 2013 Pump needs to be internal - the Blueline pump is external. 1200gph is not high enough flow. Well, it turns out that the impeller was broken apart inside of the impeller well. The top of it came off when I tried to pull it out of the pump, and the magnet is split up and I think the only way to get it out (the pieces...) is to drill it out. This was the second impeller, which I replaced about 3 years ago.
