steveoutlaw September 19, 2005 September 19, 2005 So I go to Petco and commit the ultimate mistake........I felt sorry for a 4" Naso Tang in a 20g tank so I bought him......for $20.00 no less. I'm hoping he's just stressed out but I'm worried about him. I got him yesterday and as of yet he still hasn't eaten. My yellow tang was being a bit of an ass at first but now is leaving him alone. Is there anything that I can do to make his adjustment a little easier?
rocko918 September 19, 2005 September 19, 2005 you should have put him in a q-tank. too late for that. You do realize you are just adding fuel to the fire by buying the fish from them. They see it sell and will buy more. I hope you don't get any ich or something of the sort. It going to have to adjust. Yellow are aggressive and hopeful it will leave the naso alone.
ErikS September 19, 2005 September 19, 2005 Yowzers - 18" of fish in a 120 - I'd guess the yellow won't be the boss for long
steveoutlaw September 19, 2005 Author September 19, 2005 I know it's going to have to move on to a larger tank, but I couldn't resist. I know I added some fuel to the fire, but c'mon......a 4" Naso for $20.00. Unfortunately I don't have a QT ready do I put him right in my show tank. Erik - The yellow has already stopped screwing with him. He's not showing any signs of stress other than he seems very lethargic and won't eat.
GaryL September 20, 2005 September 20, 2005 steve your tank should be good enough just don't get any more giants as it will already feel crowded. the yellow are agressive towards tangs until they establish order. naso's are gentle giants so it will be the boss. try buying sushi nori in the asian section of safeway, mine gobble it up. as far as petco being a problem IMO it depends on the one you go to. they do use ORA for their tank raised stuff so im ok with that. how many private guys for sure you know buy ORA stuff? like anywere we go we need to be educated, just be educated and stop people from buying that panther grouper and putting it in a 20L. and hopefuly we will fix the "problem" with our knowledge.
ErikS September 20, 2005 September 20, 2005 The yellow has already stopped screwing with him That because he saw that yuk it up yellow boy, in a couple months I'll be kicking your *ss look in the Naso's eyes
steveoutlaw September 20, 2005 Author September 20, 2005 Gary - Thanks for the input. I'll pickup some of the sushi Nori on the way home. Erik - I believe you are correct! When are we going to play Montclair?
ErikS September 20, 2005 September 20, 2005 Erik - I believe you are correct! When are we going to play Montclair? In a couple weeks? They just punched & top dressed the greens - they're pretty sad at the moment. Good news, they run a "club night" every Tues - only cart fee ($15).
steveoutlaw September 20, 2005 Author September 20, 2005 Ok, I'm )%&*^% PISSED! It's my own fault, but the Naso tang died. I should have left him at petco.......he would have met the same fate and I wouldn't have fueled the fire. Isn't that cruelty to animals keeping a 4" tang in a 20g tank? I just had to vent........and of course........THEY HAVE NO GuARUNTEE ON THEIR SALTWATER FISH!
GaryL September 21, 2005 September 21, 2005 sorry to here that steve. i have always seem to have good luck with the petco saltys, but then again i only bought tank raised fishys. i did however pick up a six line and a scopas from them yesterday. so ill see how it goes
