2 part dosing question

I have brightwell aquatics reef code a and b. Right now I don't have enough coral in my tank that are lowering my calcium to levels that need dosing. I am changing 15% of my water each week in my 60 gallon so it is replenishing whatever is being taken in my the coral. I have been checking alkalinity almost daily and notice that every 4-5 days my ppm goes down a bit so I have been dosing the "B" part once or twice a week. Is it ok to be just dosing the "B" part or should I be doing both "A" and "B"? I do understand the purpose of the A and B is to stabilize and not raise levels but I am able to raise the alkalinity by putting a few extra milliliters in the tank. I just don't see the point of putting A in right now if the tank doesn't need it unless there is some reason I should be. Thanks

That is fine, I have to dose more alk than calcium in my system. Once the corals start growing they will start needing calcium as well.

I doubt what you are doing is incorrect or bad in anyway. They do sell Alk (soda ash) to increase DKH. 2 part is usually purchased for SPS systems where Cal and Alk are in high demand. I wouldn't use part B unless your DKH is really low and there is a definite need for it. If you dont have a lot of coral it shouldn't be an issue. What is your DKH?

I'm keeping it around 9.5 because I have noticed everything in the tank gets a little fussy when it is below 9. The tank is going to mostly sps (the easier ones). There are corals in the tank, but most of them are just frags that are beginning to grow which is why calcium isn't being sucked down at a rapid rate.

That sounds about right. I think as long as it stays around 9 you should be fine. I try to keep my DKH between 10-12.
