sen5241b October 22, 2012 October 22, 2012 I had Fiji Blue Devil in my 29G and he killed a plate coral and started messing with other corals. I was astonished at how big the ricks were that he could lift and drop on the plate. Because he was the smallest fish in the tank he did not mess with other fish. I caught him by filling the whole 29 tank with many plastic bottle fish traps all baited with live food. (Make sure live bait --brine shrimp-- can't escape traps.) I put him in his own 20G long. My 29 now has a maroon clown and a pajama cardinal --that's all. I have a 6 inch maxima clam, many Ricordea, Sinularia, (grows like weeds in my tank), a couple brain polyps and various zoas that also grow like weeds albeit a little more slowly. Would you put the little devil back in the 29G?
SunWyrm October 22, 2012 October 22, 2012 (edited) Which blue devil is he? Cyanea? Taupou? or a smaller type? Pic might help. I have a mated pair of cyanea which I kept in a 29g at one point, I wouldn't put either back into that small of a tank now. The territory is too small for their aggression with other fish and each other. As for messing with corals, was it building a nest and these just happened to be in the way? My male has quite the territory that he controls in front of his home. I've heard that taupous are pretty easy going for damsels. Deplending on exactly what damsel you're dealing with, it can go either way IMO. Personally I wouldn't if your corals are now happy and this little guy is known for destroying them. Let him be happy in the 20, maybe find him a mate or another fish buddy. Edited October 22, 2012 by YiatzOfEden
SunWyrm October 22, 2012 October 22, 2012 The real fiji devil he is! Very pretty taupou, but I still think that if you're cool with him having his own 20, your corals will be safer and you won't have to worry about catching him again. Although, this line of thinking is how I've ended up with all the many tanks that I have...
