Rid Ich+ medication any good?

Has anyone had any luck with Rid Ich+ treatment? My small Blue Hippo Tang shows slight symtomps of Ich and I just wanted to get him treated ASAP. I already gave him a 4 minute freshwater/methylene blue dip, moved him to my Q-tank, and administered the recommended dose of 5ml. This stuff contains formalin and malachite green. Any thoughts? I didn't have much luck with Copper in the past with Tangs, so wanted to try something different.

how do fish usually get ich? isnt it a parasite? i used kick ich-in my 55 and its been gone so it worked pretty good i guess..

There is nothing I can think of that could stress him out. When he arrived he was already stressed, I was hoping he would recover. He was eating well, but yesterday I noticed he was all beat-up from trying to scratch himself against the rocks.

my hippo had ich too. i made sure to vary the diet, spirulina, nori, prime reef 1, mysis, enriched brine, and selcon. i didnt q-tine it or do a freshwater or hypo-salinity. that seemed to work for me. i however only recommend the varied diet NOT the shotgun approach like i do. good luck,

Hippos are very susceptible to ich. I have found that if it's in your tank, they'll get it. I have been told to feed them food soaked in garlic extract, but I have never seen garlic extract for sale before. The theory (which apparently works well) is that garlic makes your pores open up and secrete everything, which is why people stink after eating garlic, and in a fish, the same thing will happen, only it stimulates the slime coat and causes the ich to fall off (at least from what I gather). This is the reason why mandarin gobies are not susceptible to ich, because of their slime coat that is constantly being secreted and shed, they tend to repel more ich and "wash away" whatever does manage to get to the fish.

There are a bunch of us that swear by adding garlic and fresh ginger root to our frozen food at the last minute while it is thawing to soak in- Seems to have fought back every case of Ick I have managed to put in my tank with my tangs. And you are right - the Hippo will get it first- Powder blue will be second- the yellow tang almost never- I tried the hypo salinity and was not very happy with it- too long a peiod required and too much effect on other inhabitants- corals mainly.

My experience is that Brine shrimp is the main culprit for importing ich into your tank- I have noted it is almost a sure thing if you use store bought live brine- I use some gut loaded in my sea horse tank and have never had an issue- but feed just a little to the main reef and within a week you have ich spots on the tangs. I have even attributed some frozen brine to be a culprit.

I now fight ich by using some ozone at night. and when I have outbreaks I bring out the chopped garlic and fresh ginger and put the juice in with my frozen food offerings. A good diet over a period of a couple of weeks seems to get rid of any out break- the fish fight it off- I also have a pair of large cleaner shrimp that will work the fish as well. Then I will be ich free for several months until I make a bone head addition again. I have even imported ich on calurpa from the sump of a tank that had ich infected fish in the main tank.

I second ginger. It has solved EVERY case of ich I have had, from minor to all H-E-double hocky sticks breaking loose.
