countryboy June 9, 2012 June 9, 2012 Hi Folks, I noticed about three days ago These rusty green flakes on my glass and live rock. I scrape them off and next day there back. I did a little research and have a feeling there flatworms. I read that some of them are harmless. They don't seem to be harming anything and my corals are flourishing. If it were the bad ones wouldn't they be affecting my corals? My water parameters are were they should be so I don't believe that's the problem. I tried to find a six line wrasse today but my lfs didn't have one. Should I be worried?

OldReefer June 9, 2012 June 9, 2012 I am pretty sure you are describing common red flatworms. They are only a big deal if they over run your tank. If they start to annoy you they are easily knocked back with Salifert Flatworm Exit. You just have to do big water changes and run lots of carbon when you treat them. Lots of wrasses are supposed to eat them. Very few actually do.
countryboy June 9, 2012 Author June 9, 2012 Pic? I've never seen a green flatworm. Is it coralline algae? I'm trying to get a picture but my camera is not cooperating. I may have to borrow one. It's not coraline algae because I can see them move a little. There flat dirty green with a orangish tint or rusty tint on one end
countryboy June 9, 2012 Author June 9, 2012 Do they look like this? Mine are similer in shape but there dirty green with a rusty orange on one end. I will try to get a picture tommorrow when my lights come back on. None of these things are on my corals

surf&turf June 9, 2012 June 9, 2012 There are several different kinds. They really don't hurt anything, but if they over populate, they can smother corals for light.

I haven't seen one on the corals yet but I'd like to get a hold on them before they get out of hand. Hey my overflow came in today and I think my phosphat reactor is in the post office but I got home to late to get it. I also got twenty lbs of rubble for my sump
