Rick Mccl March 7, 2012 March 7, 2012 I'm working on a tank, and my goal is DSB with refugium. I have hardware up, and water flowing, but so far - nothing else.So I've read many places about using 1-2 pounds live rock and 1 pound live sand per gallon. My question is, would that be per gallon of DT, or per gallon of total system capacity? thanks, Rick
Chad March 7, 2012 March 7, 2012 Truth is: It doesn't really matter... It is a thumb rule (and a somewhat antiquated one at that), go with enough to get the look you want and unless you are going for a wide-open bare botoom tank, you will be fine.
dcreefer March 7, 2012 March 7, 2012 Hey Rick, welcome to the club! For a seasoned veteran like Chad, yes the rule is old and antiquated! I usually apply measurements to my entire volume of water or system capacity as opposed to just what I have in the Display Tank. Hope that helps!
Rick Mccl March 7, 2012 Author March 7, 2012 Thanks, guys; I will try to remember to take rules of thumb with a grain of salt. Sounds like I should place an order and see if it does what I want it to do! thanks, Rick
