collegeman March 4, 2012 March 4, 2012 I purchased a small dogface puffer on Tuesday that will not eat. He swims around the tank like a normal healthy fish. When i feed the tank most of the time he acts like he is scared of the food. He does not want it to touch him or anything. I do see him pecking at the rocks a lot and sometimes he do go after the food i feed the other fish but spits it back out. When he do attempts to eat he takes small little wimpy bites. He did however eat a couple pieces of anemone on Saturday. food i have tried: Live clams Scallops raw table shrimp PE mysis plankton brine silver sides I am reluctant of trying krill because it causes lockjaw if feed too much. He is not being stressed and all of the tank mates seem to accept him. He can open his mouth petty good so i do not think he has lockjaw.
collegeman March 4, 2012 Author March 4, 2012 What is metro? I was thinking about treating the tank with praziquantel.
surf&turf March 4, 2012 March 4, 2012 maybe blackworms? +1 Haven't found any fish that can resist them.
collegeman March 5, 2012 Author March 5, 2012 I picked up some black worms today for the puffer. He did not eat any or look interested. I also purchased some prazipro and dosed the tank. I fed the tank 30min after dosing and he decided to eat and go after food. He's not going after the food aggressively but it is a big improvement.
Valeria March 6, 2012 March 6, 2012 My dogface puffer went a couple weeks without eating before accepting his new tank. He loved ghost shrimp... THis was when I was new to the hobby and I had him with softies and he really liked my blue mushrooms.. after that snack he took all foods offered. My guinea fowl went a month before eating... then he took everythink offered too.
