Witnessed my Falco Hawkfish pair spawning for the first time tonight and thought I'd share. I was without camera but hopefully now that I know how and when they do it I'll be more prepared next time.

They started dancing like dragonettes do only at a faster pace, not 5 minutes after lights out. They swam next to each other, landed together, and "kissed" most of the time though it was mostly from the male.

I got my male from Josh in July, he was over LA's listed max size of 2.5" when I got him so I was sure of his gender. I went out on a limb and bought another from LA in September, and she showed up at barely an 1" (which was great for chances of pairing them). I introduced her and immediately they hit it off. No aggression, no territorial disputes, they were and still are inseparable. She has now grown to just over 2" (it's getting hard for me to tell them apart).

I was amazed as I thought it would take years for any type of behavior like this, even though I keep most of my fish in pairs or harems.

Flakes and Jan's frozen food with added garlic and vitamin c that I feed everyone. I add some extra mysis especially for the hawkfish. I haven't been feeding them frozen as often as I should as I didn't think they would be doing this so soon. They'll be getting extra special treatment now.
