steveoutlaw December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 I had been running T5s on my cube and just upgraded to a 400w MH with 4 24w T5s. I've shortened the photo period and raised the fixture up. If I just increase the photoperiod slowly, will this be adeuate to acclimate the corals to the stronger light?
Coral Hind December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 Yes, slowly increasing the photoperiod is what I have done. Because the new lights are so much stronger your final photoperiod can be less then what it was with the T5's. Be careful doing anything that will make the water more clear like changing carbon or doing a large water change as the extra light peneration can burn the corals. During the acclimation phase you may see the corals expelling brown substance which is the extra zooxanthellae.
dakotasreef December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 You can also add layers of egg crate over the tank and remove one every week or so.
