jumpinjoker December 5, 2011 Share December 5, 2011 My RSM 34D has been up and running for about two months. For the last couple of weeks one of the two pumps has been intermittently spewing microbubbles. Cleaned the impeller (seemed to help for a short while) and checked the water level, but can't find a permanent solution. Any ideas?
jumpinjoker December 5, 2011 Author Share December 5, 2011 Sorry--I meant RSM 30D, if that makes any difference.
Origami December 6, 2011 Share December 6, 2011 Probably the 130D... I think the tank capacity is 130 liters, which is 34 gallons. The RSM130, and I suppose 130D, have two return pumps that ride just behind the opening in the back wall. The volute on the bottom of the pump, if not below the water level in the third and final chamber, can let air in, causing air to get sucked in and microbubbles to result. Thus, you have two options: Raise the water level in the third chamber (it's the first to fall in level due to evaporation) or modify the design to lower the pumps down lower into the chamber (like is done on Oceanic's Biocubes). Lowering the pump is a fairly easy mod using some flexible tubing and an elbow.
