dakotasreef September 25, 2011 September 25, 2011 I plan on adding some uv led's to my biocube. I am not electrically intelligent enough to figure out. Can I run 6 1w uv leds on a meanwell 60-48p. If not then what type of driver can I use http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/component-leds/prolight-1-watt-ultraviolet-leds-140-degree-viewing-angle/334/1277/
Guest thefishman65 September 26, 2011 September 26, 2011 I would use a 24 volt power supply and some resistors to limit the current. The 60-48 will not work. You would need something like a 60-24 with the current limiter turned way down.
dakotasreef September 26, 2011 Author September 26, 2011 Thank you. I was hoping it would be as simple as the 3w crees. I appreciate the response.
Guest thefishman65 September 26, 2011 September 26, 2011 Now the voltage is different and you are using fewer. The Vf is about 24 volts. So IIRC the 48-60 goes to 48, but you might need to go lower. You should also consider ELN of lower wattage since they might be cheaper.
dakotasreef September 26, 2011 Author September 26, 2011 Something like the 30-5? http://www.trcelectronics.com/Meanwell/power-supply-eln.shtml
Guest thefishman65 September 26, 2011 September 26, 2011 No you would have to worry about parallel strings. If one LEDs goes out the current will increase through the rest, and one of them will go and a chain reaction occurs. More like the ELN-30-24.
dakotasreef September 26, 2011 Author September 26, 2011 I really appreciate you taking time with this. So if I get the eln-30-24 would I just wire them like the 3w crees. Would there be any special instructions like, minimum # led's, parallel, series, resistors needed, etc.
Guest thefishman65 September 26, 2011 September 26, 2011 6 of the LEDs at a forward voltage of 3 to 4 volts makes a string voltage of 18-24. Double check the than ELN goes that low, but I think it does. Wire them in series and you should be good.
dakotasreef September 26, 2011 Author September 26, 2011 If I read this right 21.6 is the minimum voltage. http://elcodis.com/datasheet.php?c=5395897&c_name=ELN30-24P&doc=237289
Guest thefishman65 September 27, 2011 September 27, 2011 You are right, lower than I thought. That should work the LED voltage can go down to 3 volts. So using the current adjuster you should be good.
dakotasreef September 27, 2011 Author September 27, 2011 Sweet! Thank you so much. I will post my results once I complete it. If your ever upto in the Frederick,md area Lmk. I would be willing to throw a few frags your way.
