Donmarco August 7, 2011 August 7, 2011 i'm throwing this out to check my observations.I've had a beautiful, large Hammer Coral in my tank for the past three years. A couple of weeks ago I noticed it splitting in half. It looks like it's reproducing. Is this the normal way?Mark
Integral9 August 7, 2011 August 7, 2011 looks normal to me. I had a hammer frag that started w/ 3 heads then grew to 30-40 heads (almost a volley ball) over 3 years before my tank crashed. i've got about 10 heads left i think.

treesprite August 8, 2011 August 8, 2011 Euphyllia corals increase in size by splitting heads and by growing new branches out of the stems. The head splitting is a lot faster than the branch-growing. I'd be interested in seeing what happens if someone cuts a head in half... I know that heads that have been damaged grow fully back, so maybe if the mouth is cut in the middle, both sides will grow back.... who knows?
