emissary May 19, 2005 Author May 19, 2005 What I find was a really valuable lesson from that article is: Friction decreases with a larger pipe (huh!) Velocity decreases (duh) with a larger pipe That means with a pump that has a 3/4" outlet, you can run your return at 1", turn water over faster, and not blow the flesh off your corals. Of course... do you WANT to turn water over faster? I'm kinda fond of the lower end of water turnover (3-4 capacity per hour) ... let the skimmer skim and you're getting the crap off the surface anyway... Lower pipe friction means it's safer to hard plumb the return too.
