jason the filter freak June 17, 2011 June 17, 2011 what color is your sand bed? i'm a very big fan of the last pic with the porcelain crab
OUsnakebyte June 17, 2011 Author June 17, 2011 It's "black" but seems to be more of a charcoal. I debated doing that a few months back, and really... the jury is still out on if I like it or not. I'm okay with it for now I suppose. The elegance coral I have looks nice against the black/dark backdrop when it is expanded. Cheers Mike
jason the filter freak June 17, 2011 June 17, 2011 So I had the same issue with a "black sand bed" I used grey coast calcite and didn't like the color. I fixed the issue by mixing in a moderate amount of carib sea naturals black which was in fact black. That being said it was clearly volcanic and so it was closer to glass in composition and of course would not break down/melt/etc like your calcium carbonate based sands would. The other thing to note is that it contained little bits of iron here and there (no surprise for volcanic based sand) but it created issues with the mag float picking it up every once in a while.
