Hayden February 25, 2011 February 25, 2011 So I'm doing the pluming on the new tank and I just can't seem to get the Nylon tubing over the barbed fitting. Yes.. it's the right size. It's such a tight fit I just don't want to have to put as much pressure on the bulkhead as I think I am going to have to. I was planning on dipping the ends of the Nylon tubing into some boiling water for a few seconds just before putting it over the barbed fittings. Is this advisable? Any other tips to installing Nylon tubing over a barbed fitting? Thanks in advance.
Hayden February 25, 2011 Author February 25, 2011 Sorry... just noticed I put this in Welcome instead of General Discussion
Brian Ward February 25, 2011 February 25, 2011 They tend to fit very tightly. Be sure that you're looking at the ID of the tubing vs the size of the bulkhead (there are also OD measurements on the tubing, so be careful). The tubing should easily slip onto the tip of the barb. Getting it past the first 1/4" or so definitely requires some work. Definitely be careful about putting too much stress on the bulkhead.
flowerseller February 25, 2011 February 25, 2011 I take a coffee cup of water and stick it in the microwave for 1min 45 seconds. Then I hold the hose it for 15 seconds and gently push it onto my fitting. cinchy
Hayden February 26, 2011 Author February 26, 2011 Yeah, I used a Caliper to measure the barbed end and just got the tube today. Thanks... the coffee cup, water and microwave worked perfect!
