Clyde February 25, 2011 Share February 25, 2011 Cleaning my tank I noticed about 6 or so small, what I think are Ball Anemone. They are very neat.. ? is, are the bad? I have not added anything to my tank in over 1 1/2 years. Nothing but water... They are all under rock in caved areas.. Any thoughts.

Prunfarm February 25, 2011 Share February 25, 2011 AKA strawberry anemone? I've heard both sides, but I've never had an issue with them.

dshnarw February 26, 2011 Share February 26, 2011 (edited) Here is a link to what I have. Not my pic... http://melevsreef.com/pics/07/12/orange_ball_flashlight.jpg You have a tropical species of Corynactis (the temperate species is the strawberry "anemone", C. californica). They are small corallimorphs (related to mushrooms) that will stay small (an inch or less) and slowly form colonies in the recesses and dark areas of the tank (they're non-photosynthetic). They'll eat whatever floats past, but the only harm they could really do is to small pods. Edited February 26, 2011 by dshnarw
