I'm wondering what the norm is for how often an impeller should have to be replaced. I replaced the impeller on my Gen X 6000 about a year ago, and I noticed that this one is now starting to show the same wear signs, a tiny crack in the plastic coating.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows of something that can be used to repair such cracks before the metal under it starts corroding away, to give extra life to the impeller.

I would think that if you try to repair the impeller with something then it might throw it out of balance. That in turn could cause other issues possibly more expensive than an impeller. Your best bet is to clean your impellers and pumps frequently to prolong their life. It's always good to have a spare on hand just in case you need one. Hope this helps.

The impellers have a black plastic coating over them. The coating gets a crack in it. I don't want to put something over the entire thing, just something in the crack line. I was thinking along the lines of liquid electrical tape, since that's what the black coating reminds me of.

Any thoughts on using liquid electrical tape?
