Noobalicious June 1, 2010 Share June 1, 2010 15 minutes of maintenance just saved me from having to put $400 into a chiller. Lately my tank temps had been rising, and had figured it was due to the weather changing. 84 during the day was becoming the norm and there was only a little drop at night. The assumption was that the acrylic was holding in the heat from the lights. I did an experiment and kept my MH lighting off for 2 days and only let the actinics cycle as usual. There was no real change in the temps Turns out it was the pump for my closed loop. 15 minutes worth of cleaning and the pump is running much cooler and the tank has been staying at around 79 Guess I need to be checking my pumps more often. Noobalicious June 1, 2010 Author Share June 1, 2010 Was there lots of calcium deposits? No calcium deposits, but there was a thick sime coating and a bunch of small things(chaeto, pvc shaving, etc...) blocking the holes in the impeller fan, so there was a lot less water getting pushed through. Noobalicious June 1, 2010 Author Share June 1, 2010 What type of pump? It's really old "Quiet One" pump. It runs really strong and produces a good flow.
