onux20 May 10, 2010 May 10, 2010 I was concerned with my water quality and the accuracy of my test kits. I looked around and found these guys. I went with the reference kit that gives you 4 test cycles to use at your discretion. I got the first round of results back. My at-home test results came out with the same basic values for, N03, Ca, Mg, and alk. I don
Coral Hind May 10, 2010 May 10, 2010 There have been a few people here that have use that service and have reported good results. I would not stress about the Mo and Mg levels myself. Your corals will consume both as they grow and yours are not that high. I am sure it was high because of the recently completed water change. IO salt like most salt mixes is slightly high in silicates. Unless you have a diatom issue I would not worry about that either. The silicates will be consumed quickly by sponges and algaes and was also high because of the newly completed water change. You may want to check your TDS reading of your RO/DI unit to make sure it is not adding excess silicates but other then that I wouldn't worry.
onux20 May 11, 2010 Author May 11, 2010 Thanks. I think I am going to leave the carbon rx off line for now. Another water change this week and see how the tank looks then. Ron
cabrego May 11, 2010 May 11, 2010 Not sure what to think about the Moly but the Mg does seem high. IO usually tests around 1300 or so, so I am not sure how you could get higher than that without some serious dosing, not to mention that even if you were dosing I would expect the Mg to drop with your Ca and Alk. Since both of those appear to be a tad low, it is really odd that Mg is as high as it is, assuming you are not dosing Mg. Silicates can be a problem, I have a test kit for Mg and Silica if you want a second opinion. I recommend double checking some of those numbers just to be sure you understand what the report says. How do they test your water?

How do they test your water? Thanks for the comments and advice. I use my favorite test, Tropic Marin for Ca/Mg and Alk. My reuslts pretty much mirror those in the report. I agree with the Mg number, it has ALWAYS benn high. I was dosing 2 part from BRS. Which calls for dosing Mg at the end of batch of the two part. I have only dosed that twice. It has been more than a few weeks since the last dose of Mg. I am not going to sweat it too much. I will see what the numbers look like next month. Ron
