sen5241b April 14, 2010 April 14, 2010 My Purple Firefish has one front fin that is is decayed a little and there is some white rot on the edge. There is also something white where the same fin meets his body. The fin on the opposite side is fine.
Chris- April 14, 2010 April 14, 2010 Have you checked water conditions? What is your perams? How many water changes do you do? What corals? Picture of the tank possible? Fin rotting is a sign of bad water for the most part, but not always.
sen5241b April 15, 2010 Author April 15, 2010 I did a 50% water change a week ago. Trates very low. I did get some weird stench in the tank like 5 days ago but I cut back some rotten cheato and put carbon in. Now stench is gone.
Chris- April 16, 2010 April 16, 2010 trates should not cause much of a problem, but, seeing (in your sig) you have a small tank, i would do %15 a day until all reading are 0, just to get anything thats in there out. Do that for a week and watch the fishies fins. Are you 0 on ammonia?

Chris- April 16, 2010 April 16, 2010 What could 15% w/c do every day to alleviate fin rot if that is really the case? Help clear out whatever bacteria or nasties he has in his water. 15% would give him healthier water day by day without throwing the tank off. If the fins start to clear up by the end of the week, then he knows that he has some water quality issues, or, in the least, whatever was in there is now out. If it does not help or fins get worse, he can grab the fish and go straight to medicating.
sen5241b April 17, 2010 Author April 17, 2010 The one fin is getting worse and it looks like it will kill him. ALL other fish are fine. The Purple Firefish's other fins are absolutely fine. I'm putting an anti-fungal in. All water parms look fine. Will do 25% water change this weekend. Also there is something red in the afflicted fin. The other fin has no red in it.
Chris- April 17, 2010 April 17, 2010 What else is in the tank besides fish? Corals, snails, shrimp? Anyway to pull the one fish and treat in a separate tank?
sen5241b April 17, 2010 Author April 17, 2010 What else is in the tank besides fish? Corals, snails, shrimp? Anyway to pull the one fish and treat in a separate tank? Yeah,, all of the above. Catching the Firefish might require a complete tank break down.
Chris- April 18, 2010 April 18, 2010 (edited) I would try to yoke the fish out with maybe a home made fish trap, but, you can only do what you can do. Dosing a tank with all the coral and inverts can be tricky. Good luck with it and keep us posted. If you never seen one made http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdZDU52sixw Edited April 18, 2010 by Chris-
