JMsAquarium July 12, 2003 July 12, 2003 After much waiting, my 120 is finally being filled. Started last eve, and it's 1/3 filled this morning. Then, mixing the salt. After suffering contant harrasment from a certain reefer (pick a wild guess), the missus gave up and said I could break the piggy bank and buy the LR WHENEVER I WANTED . I'm planning on getting the rock for next weekend at the latest. JM
JMsAquarium July 14, 2003 Author July 14, 2003 Yey, now it's finally filled up (it took 48 hrs). Time to mix some salt :D
quazi July 14, 2003 July 14, 2003 JM, Hey it is about time! :p Glad that you are getting some salt into that thing. Keep us tuned in. I have lots of stuff for you when you are ready. Quazi
JMsAquarium July 14, 2003 Author July 14, 2003 Haven't bought it yet. I am hesitating between The Reef Tank at 3.49/LB or Dr. Mac at 4.25/lb + shipping. Any suggestions Michael?
Gatortailale July 14, 2003 July 14, 2003 Contact Mac and see if you can meet him at BWI. I have heard he has done that for a few people. Just a suggestion if you are going to get from him. If you are going to pay Mac + shipping cost, might as well go look at MS If you buy like 50 ro 100 + lbs, their price drops down to 4 something a lb I think; worth investigation or at least phone call if you are thinking of adding on shipping cost to get rock, because you can get at trt or ms for 0 shipping, or meet mac. just my .0000000002
JMsAquarium July 14, 2003 Author July 14, 2003 Very true, hence why I am still trying to decide where to get it. MS si still more expensive than TRT & Dr. Mac The question is, Dr. Mac (accoding to his web site) guarantees top premium quality really fully cured Kaelini rock, TRT claims to sell cured premium Fiji & Tonga. I'll have to check when TRT got its last shipment and if they have over 120 lbs avail. Now, some people on RC said that they made arrengements with Dr. Mac and met him in Salisbury and others at the airport. If meeting him at BWI, then I'll have more than certainly to cure the rock wich drops his price to 3.99/Lb. Problem is the Missus. She wants NO SMELL in our living room :p (she'll miss the fun). I guess then it all depends on what TRT has in stock. I'll make my mind during the week.
quazi July 15, 2003 July 15, 2003 You can order LR direct through East Coast Claims (thanks for the link Craig!) Check out the LR @ http://www.eastcoastclams.com/ Seems like a great deal to me
JMsAquarium July 15, 2003 Author July 15, 2003 Sounds like a good deal. Any one here has ordered LR from them? If yes what was your experience, rock itself and quality of the service. I don't mind paying Dr. Mac prices given that my wife threatens to make me sleep outside for the whole curing period if it ever smells in the living room :p
dgasmd July 16, 2003 July 16, 2003 I bought 200 lb of LR from Dr. Mac a while back. Trust me on this one. Buy the uncured fiji and don't waste your money on kaelini or the other more expensive stuff. It is all about the same unless you want giant pieces. If that is the case, get the kaelini. Mine was uncured and did not stink the house up. Cover up the place where the skimmer output will be or where the scumm will collect. That is all. 3 weeks max and you'll ahve it all cured. Don't use the light for more than 4 hours per day, but do use it. Also, use kalk for top off if possible. That is all you need.
