Assuming I have PLENTY of circulation in the tank, how much flow do I really need for a return from the sump to the tank? The sump will contain heater, chiller, skimmer, carbon, uv, ozone, fuge, etc., none of which should really require a high turnover rate. Most biological filtration should occur in the DT. A frag tank will also be fed from the return pump, but it should have a very low bioload and will also have plenty of circulation of its own.

The return pump I have is setup so its only job is to "return" water. With that being said, I like to have ~500gph going through the sump skimmer section, then a ball valve for the fuge, which gets ~50gph or less through it.

I plan on setting my new tank up the same way as my current one, since I am happy with the results/design thus far.

I have a plenum that my return pump goes through to supply my reactors.
