dmatt56 February 8, 2010 February 8, 2010 Hello Everyone, How difficult could it be to convert a turtle aquarium to a reef? I know turtles can carry salmonella, and I wonder how much cleaning would be required. Thanks, Matt
wfoxfox February 8, 2010 February 8, 2010 I had a turtle tank ( water turtles) for 2 years. 55 gallon tank. There is no way I would have used it as a reef after I was done with turtles. Maybe use it for freshwater fish for 6 months? Then convert to salt. For the cost of a tank, "I" wouldn't fight it........
khalid February 8, 2010 February 8, 2010 My first reef a 33 gallon long started off as a turtle tank that was converted to a grow out african cichlid tank then to a reef tank and had no problems at all as long as you give it a cleaning.

Most bacteria are not able to survive as spores when you use certain cleaners. If you're in doubt, then add bleach to boiling hot water and then put it in, but don't inhale the fumes! This will kill all of the spores and remaining bacteria for all intents and purposes.
