bbyatv January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 I walked in to the office the other night to find one of my T5 fixtures just starting on fire. This was close. Had I been 5 minutes later, I may have had a real problem. Any how, this is just a heads up to remind people to make sure no moisture is getting in to their T5 fixtures and to keep them clean and free of salt. Otherwise you might not get as lucky as I did. I had been smellling an electrical smell for about 4 or 5 days prior to the fire. I thought it was a ballast having trouble. Bruce

Coral Hind January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 Are they waterproof end caps? Lesson learned...a few minutes of an "electrical smell" is enough to unplug it.
igozoom January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 Being a recent member of the 'reef fire' club, I'm going to place a smoke detector above (near maybe) any future tanks and hope the salty evaporate does not destroy the smoke detector. I caught mine a little too late...
chris1017 January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 glad you caught it in time. I had a close call myself a few years ago, very scarry. chris
