Barebottomcorals_Ed September 25, 2009 September 25, 2009 Adding a fuge to my set up. 30 gl plan on having 3 different types of macro algae. My question, should i run a 3-4" layer of sand in my fuge maybe a few pieces of LR??...I have a very shallow sand bed in my display and plan on changing SB out in the next few months.
zygote2k September 25, 2009 September 25, 2009 (edited) My 30 gal 'fuge started out as bare bottom, but eventually was covered in silt and particulates as time went by. The silt layer has tons of life now. I have many types of macro that grow well in the fuge- Chaeto, Gracilaria, Ochtodes, Halymenia. These are good choices and are very hardy. You should put small pieces of rubble on the bottom to start a 'pod pile'. You should make a DSB in a seperate location that gets no light and will be relatively undisturbed.
