Jan August 9, 2009 August 9, 2009 I purchased a used 48" coralife aquapro. It comes with x2 150 watt MH and x2 96 watt PC bulbs. As you saw by the pictures in my dedicated tank thread my corals were looking washed out. There just wasn't enough light. I found a modification to this light unit online. http://images.google...sa%3DN%26um%3D1 It looked great and fairly easy but it was something I'm just not good at and have no desire to do. The short of the long is I had the modification done today. It took about 3.5 hours and CoralHind did a much better job than the mod in this link. Before the modification. Notice that the Pc's only go about 3/4 of the way in the hood. During the modification. PC's on one side have already been switched out and replaced with T5's. He took out the old ballast and PC and replaced it with new ballast, T5 end caps which he secured inplace onto the reflectors. It workes! First mod passed the test with flying colors. Job complete. Both PC's replaced with 2 T5's on each side for a total of 4 T5's. Tada! Bright, crisp 14K MH w/T5's. I'll be replacing two of the T5's with 1 fiji purple and 1 ultra actinic blue. I owe this great work to Coralhind. He made this mod look effortless. Cheers to you David for being an all around great person and a wonderful craftsman. You are a true mentor and Grand Master Reefer. Thanks for always being there to lend a helping hand to us all. Kudos for a fantastic job. Please tell everyone how you did this.
Boret August 9, 2009 August 9, 2009 Now, that is much better Jan. How do you like the coloration you get with the 14ks?
bamainva August 9, 2009 August 9, 2009 Looks great. Can't wait to see the pics once the new bulbs are in. David..very nice job on that mod.
Nate August 9, 2009 August 9, 2009 That's a pretty well done mod. Give those new 14k's about a month or so and you will see some great color back in pretty much all your corals.
